In a move that has angered Republicans, President Obama on Wednesday will make a recess appointment of Richard Cordray to be the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, sidestepping the Senate confirmation process, a White House official said.

Following her sixth place finish in the Iowa Caucuses last night, in which she only got five percent of the vote, Michele Bachmann announced this morning that she's ending her campaign for president.
 
As reported earlier today, Michelle Bachmann, (who practically lived in Iowa these past few months, visiting 99 of Iowa's counties) has dropped out of the Republican presidential race. In a surprise move, Rick Perry, who said he was canceling his trip to South Carolina in order to go home to Texas and evaluate his options, said his campaign would continue, according to the BBC.

Police cadet Mohammad Salman Hamdani was working in Queens on Sept. 11, 2001. When he heard about the attacks, he rushed to Ground Zero, where he died trying to rescue others. His actions were cited in the Patriot Act as an example of Muslim-American valor. And yet, if you go to the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site, you won't find Hamdani's name on the list of first responders who died in the attack.
